This is an easy activity to do at home to encourage children to develop their vocabulary skills, as they listen and use words to describe an object and also become aware of their senses.
Gather some items, put them in a bag or pillow case and then let the children put their hand in and feel the object. Can they use words like soft, prickly, squidgy, smooth etc and then guess what the item is.
Some children may need an adult to model the activity first and offer some suggestions for describing words.
Similar activities can be done to let children smell or taste items and then describe them.
