Many of you will be aware that the nursery has been fortunate in having close links with Leith Community Crops in Pots, a local organisation run by one of our former parents, Evie Murray. The aim of Crops in Pots is to encourage people to grow food crops (fruits, vegetables, herbs) and flowers in urban spaces, and Evie and the Crops in Pots team have been helping us develop our own growing spaces around the nursery. During the growing season, we run our own gardening club, which meets on Thursday mornings. Evie and the team have also developed other growing spaces in Dr Bell’s Yard and Leith Primary School.
Crops in Pots has also taken over the management of a plot of land on Leith Links, where they have created Leith Community Croft – a large scale, community garden. The nursery has its own plot on the croft, and last year the children had a great time picking sizeable crops of beans, courgettes and potatoes.
