History
Stanwell nursery today occupies the original Dr Bells school, an attractive and distinguished building which has been a prominent Leith landmark for over 150 years. Dr Bell was a significant 19th century educationalist who founded schools as far apart as Madras and Glasgow, and was known for his liberal and enlightened educational philosophy.
